Harness the power of chakras – the energy centres of our body
The human body is made up of a multi-dimensional energy field, or aura, created by what we call energy bodies. It has seven main energy centres within it, called chakras, which are positioned along the spine. These chakras influence body organs, systems, glands, the brain, and nerve centres. Each chakra also connects the physical body to a specific energy body, allowing these to interact and influence the physical body and its consciousness.
These chakras are responsible for regulating the flow of energy throughout our body, and when they are blocked or unbalanced, they can cause physical and emotional ailments. In this blog, we will discuss the seven chakras, what they represent, their location in the body, and how they can be balanced to improve our overall well-being. Crown, third eye and throat are the upper chakras associated with spirituality. Root, sacral and solar plexus are the lower chakra associated with materialism.
- The Root Chakra (Muladhara)
This is the first chakra and is located at the base of the spine (near the tailbone). It is represented by the colour red. It is responsible for grounding us and our connection to the earth. An unbalanced root chakra can cause feelings of fear, anxiety, and financial instability, as well as issues with the immune system and legs. Knee pain, sciatica, eating disorders and constipation can also be experienced. This is the foundation of our life and balancing this chakra brings security. It makes us feel safe and strengthens the basic survival needs of money, shelter and food. - The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)
The second chakra, the Sacral Chakra, is located just below the belly button and is represented by the colour orange. It is responsible for our creativity, sexuality, and sense of pleasure. An unbalanced sacral chakra can cause sexual dysfunction, kidney dysfunctions, emotional instability, and creative blocks. It affects our ability to express emotions and commitment to relationships. A balanced sacral chakra brings joy, pleasure and allows us to live our life to the fullest. It energises the feeling of abundance and brings creativity. - The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
The third chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, is in the upper abdomen (2-3 inches above the navel) and is represented by the colour yellow. It is responsible for our self-esteem, confidence, and personal power. An unbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, gall bladder, pancreas, and digestive problems. This chakra is the reason behind our fight and flight response, Gall bladder and pancreas issues. A balanced solar plexus chakra will invoke high self-esteem and self-worth. It brings in strong will power and confidence. - Heart Chakra (Anahata)
The fourth chakra is the Heart Chakra, located in the centre of the chest and is represented by the colour green. This chakra is the bridge between the lower and the upper chakras This chakra is responsible for love, compassion, and emotional balance. An unbalanced heart chakra can cause jealousy, anger, lack of trust on an emotional level. It is related to physical ailments of heart, lungs, and causes asthma. Balancing this chakra brings gratitude, empathy, compassion and the feeling of love and forgiveness. - Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
The fifth chakra is the Throat Chakra, located at the throat and represented by the colour blue. This chakra is responsible for communication, self-expression, and truth. An unbalanced throat chakra can cause ear infection, neck pain and thyroid dysfunction. Balancing this chakra can strengthen communication skills whether at work or in personal relationships. It helps to express the feelings openly and clearly. - Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
The sixth chakra is the Third Eye Chakra which is in the centre of the forehead and associated with the colour indigo. This chakra is responsible for intuition, insight, wisdom, and spiritual awakening. An unbalanced third eye chakra can cause hearing and vision issues. Headaches and sinuses are connected to this chakra as well. Balancing this chakra opens the doorway between physical and spiritual world. It enlightens our consciousness and activates intuition. - Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
the seventh chakra is known as the Crown Chakra. It is located at the top of the head and linked to the colour violet. This chakra is responsible for spiritual connection, enlightenment, and intelligence. An unbalanced crown chakra can cause depression, inability to learn and brings constant sense of frustration. Balancing this chakra brings awareness to the present moment, inner peace and clear perspective on the world.
A fully opened crown chakra brings enlightenment and not an easy task to do. This is called a state of “Nirvana” which can only be attained by practising in depth spirituality and meditation.
Understanding the seven chakras and identifying any blockages or imbalances in the energy flow is very important. Chakras can be balanced by using different techniques, such as energy healing, meditation, and yoga.
By balancing our chakras, we can improve our daily lives by enhancing our creativity, personal power, communication, intuition, and spiritual connection. We can also alleviate physical ailments, such as digestive problems, sexual dysfunction, and organ issues, by ensuring that our chakras are balanced.
Ultimately, harnessing the power of chakras can help us achieve a state of harmony and balance in all aspects of our lives, enabling us to live to our fullest potential.
